I'm Detra Smith-O'Bryant

I am a woman of vision, purpose, and quiet strength. A wife, mother, CEO, and now an author—but more than titles, I am a child of the Most High and someone who has lived what I write. My journey has been shaped not by ease, but by intentional growth, deep faith, and a lifelong commitment to empowering others through their own self-discovery.

As an Author, I’m not just sharing stories—I’m handing readers a mirror and a mindset map. I write from experience, not theory. My words are rooted in lived lessons, unspoken wisdom, and a sincere desire to help people see themselves beyond circumstances.

Professionally, I have spent more than two decades serving individuals and families through leadership, education, financial empowerment, and housing initiatives. I hold a Bachelor’s in Organizational Leadership and a Master’s in Adult Education with a focus on curriculum design, both are experiences that strengthened my passion for teaching in ways that inspire real transformation, not just information.

That same passion led me to create the I See Fishes Framework—a perspective that encourages people to move with faith, recognize hidden opportunities, and take purposeful action even when they cannot yet see the entire path ahead. I believe that clarity often comes after the first courageous step, not before it.

I believe in purpose over perfection, vision over visibility, and faith that walks—especially when the road is uncertain. Whether I'm writing, speaking, or coaching, my mission is the same: to help people break through limiting beliefs and trust that what they already have can be enough to create extraordinary outcomes. 

I am the author who reminds you that your difference is not a defect, your story is not over and your calling is bigger than your current season. Even when the tank looks empty, or the next step feels impossible-you can still see fishes.
